How To Care For Ants

Have you ever wanted to study ants? The method in which they make a nest, look after their young and feed? If you have then you could get an ant farm. However, you cannot just build your ant farm, stock it and then leave it.

Having an ant farm is similar to having a tropical fish tank, you have to take care of your ants. Luckily, looking after ants is not as difficult as looking after tropical fish, it fact it is really quite easy once you get the gist of it.

Once you have constructed your ant farm and filled it up to the level with soil or sand, you will require our first bit of advice, which is about to get your ants into the nest. Well, first let us presume that you have bought your ants from the pet shop and you are ready to introduce them to their new home.

The ants will run everywhere as soon as you take the top off the box. That is typical ant behaviour, they have to investigate everything and everywhere. They will be running up your arms, escaping onto the floor and you may even get a couple into the ant farm.

While you are waiting, roll a sheet of paper into a tube and tape it so that it does not unfurl. Then take the ants out of the fridge and tip them down the funnel into your ant farm. That way you will not misplace any of them.

The ants will warm up naturally and they will soon be running around exploring their new home. The next pieces of advice relate to feeding and watering your ants. Maybe you reckoned that these wild ants could look after themselves. Well, they could in the outdoors, but since you took them out of their natural environment, you are going to have to take care of them every day.

First the watering: get a dropper, like an eye-dropper and dribble a few drops of water into one place. They will find it quickly enough. Do not make a puddle, only a few drops. Once a week you could really give them a treat and add a few grains of sugar to a teaspoon of water and tip that in for them. It will really liven them up. and give them plenty of energy to work on their new nest.

The kind of food that your ants need depends on the variety of ants that you are keeping. However, the most frequent ants for ant farms are harvester ants, because they are straightforward. Do not give them anything sticky like a half-sucked wine gum.

They will like it, but many will get stuck on it and die. The best food is a couple of small pieces of lettuce, carrot or celery. Not much. Remove any uneaten food after the second day and feed again the following day.

Old food ought to be removed to stop mold and yeasts, some of which attack ants as well. In this manner you ought to have a healthy and fascinating ant farm.

Lucid Dreaming or Conscious Dreaming is the art of being aware that one is actually dreaming. How To Validate Excel Spreadsheets

Numbers hit every part of our lives. They are involved in numerous charges on our bills, on corporate budgets, and on many other things. Keeping up these updates and adjustments with pen, paper and calculator provokes boredom and plenty of errors. Because of their many advantages, to validate spreadsheets rise up as the most potent weapon against this numerical invasion. In qualifying a spreadsheet, we can prove plenty of advantages. Computers commit errors usually because of human errors themselves. In this case, it is easier to trace because the mistakes would be consistent and thus, would be less difficult to correct. Errors coming from manual systems require intensive work to discover what went wrong and where.

So, what’s the risk in qualifying a spreadsheet? None, some people might not like it [validating spreadsheets] but it’s probably one of the easiest processes to actually validate. In this ever changing industry, one thing is for sure – the use and evolvement of computerised systems (CSV Validation) and equipment validation has never been so high. With MES systems becoming more and more popular, more equipment is emerging with the capability to export to a spreadsheet – even software for the likes of scales and pH meters with Ethernet ports or serial ports can facilitate exporting data into spreadsheet formats.

Based from manual processes that the QA department has got themselves accustomed to, they are not sold to the idea of relying on spreadsheet validation. They still trust the manual way of checking and reviewing things. Data should always be accurate to be considered reliable information and using the spreadsheet helps maintain accuracy of facts and data. To validate the process, MS Excel functions well when it comes to exporting data. The spreadsheet elements are built in the same way as the MS Excel model and therefore, the codes are easily applied.

The most important thing to know here is how to validate the spreadsheets? A simple spreadsheet program is written in JavaScript, HTML, CSS and PHP. It features formulas, charts, numeric formats, keyboard navigation, etc. JavaScript is used for the default data format and for the macros and formulas. Using a validated system will let the user know if the right kind of data is entered. Numbers and formulas are locked to prevent accidental deletion. When it comes to the increase of the level of complexity, the GxP data should be constantly checked and monitored. For example, in exporting lab equipment data, the master GxP data should be present within LIMS, MES or a Production Batch Record. In this case, the validation would allow the printout to be used to maintain GxP activities while the original data is preserved in another, already-validated system.

My discussion of the topic is more than the basic formulae concerns of spreadsheets. Let us cite the use of VBA macro in relation to some input data on a spreadsheet. In connection to computer systems validation, VBA enables developers to build user defined functions, automate processes, and access. It supersedes and expands on the capabilities of earlier applications. During the process of creating or altering systems, we should not be afraid to take the risk-based approach. This is the only way to grow and to achieve the best system application. I am wondering if it helps to have a URS, FDS, Test Plan, etc along with the related reports, I think these are all too much fuzz for a little validation effort.
As I made a review of my article, it sounds that I am simplifying the topic in my own terms. It is true but bear in mind that this is an overview of the complex subject. To summarize, the actual level of ease depends on the data source, your purpose, how it would be done, and the kind of support you would get from your manager and hopefullyan open-minded progressive QA department. The main approaches to consider are:

Identify the Gxp Data- it is not important if it is manual or electronic but would it be the spreadsheet alone or some other system?
To establish the level of complexity, do a risk-based approach. The outcomes would range from full-validation, source code review, and produce new documents in slight alterations here and there of the existing set up. Documents. These can be tailored and concise depending on the size of the project to produce better and more efficient results.

So You Want To Be A Lucid Dreamer…

So you want to lucid dream. Well that’s a good start, at least you know what you want to do; but how exactly do you go about it?

It’s important to think about why you’d like to become a lucid dreamer, too. There are a number of benefits to dreaming this way, but first we should look at normal sleep, so we’ll understand them.

When you go to sleep, you get into bed, close your eyes for a certain length of time, and either dream or just see black for a few hours and then wake up! It isn’t very interesting now is it?

Instead of having to observe passively, you could be the person who leads your dream to be whatever you would like.

What if rather than being an active observer, you can be the one who can lead your dream to be whatever you want, rather than your dream leading you? This is what a lucid dreamer is; someone who is in total control of their dreams; able to explore new worlds that are not bound to the physical, societal and time-space laws of the real world.

Are you are ready to begin but remain unsure of how any of this is possible? That is ok we are getting there, there are two way to enter lucid dream state. The first is a dream initiated lucid dream, (DILD). This happens once you have already begun to dream and during the dream, you come to the realization that you are indeed dreaming. At this point, you have brought an element of control to the dream because your conscious mind is now involved.

The second way is having a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD); where the dreamer goes from being awake, to being asleep with no change in consciousness. In other words, the dreamer enters their dream as if it were a door, rather than just “waking up” in a dream.

How exactly do you induce either one of these lucid dream states?

Dream Recall

A simple place to start when you would like to lucid dream is in dream recall. This is where you can remember and perhaps recite your dream in part or in whole. You are very likely to have the same dream more than once in your life and being able to remember them will alert you the next time you have that particular dream.

To make dream recall easier you can keep a dream journal. This is a notebook or pad of paper that has the sole purpose of recording your dreams. Whenever you have a dream, you should write all you can remember in the journal as soon as you wake up. The longer you are awake the more details of the dream that will be lost.

Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dreams (MILD)

Developed by Dr. Stephen LaBerge the idea is to tell your self to recall an object or situation from your dreams, before you go to sleep. You can look back to your dream journal for an example of a recurring them like a pink haired woman. Anything that when you see it in your dream will tell you that you are in fact dreaming.

Wake-Back-to-Bed (WBTB)

To use this method, first go to sleep. Set an alarm beforehand to wake you up a few hours later (about five or six). Once you wake up, don’t go back to sleep. Read for a little while, or think about lucid dreaming for a while, then head back to sleep.

According to LaBerge, this technique has about a sixty percent success rate. That’s because you wake up in the middle of your sleep cycle, with your mind not fully aware, and are still in the middle of your REM cycle. This results in something a lot like telling your mind you want to dream lucidly and having it obey!

Cycle Adjustment Technique

This technique was created by Daniel Love, and involves setting an alarm that will wake you an hour and a half before you’d normally get up. Once you’re used to waking up early, alternate between the early alarm and your old alarm. When you’re waking up normally, your body will already be expecting the early alarm, and make you more likely to “wake up” in your dream.

Wake-initiation of Lucid Dreams (WILD)

When you consider all the methods and techniques wake initiated is by far the most intriguing way to enter lucid dreams. What you have to do is manage to keep the brain aware while the rest of you falls asleep. You can enter your dreams much like entering a theater. You go into watch the movie, set down and the light go down, (sleep) dark envelopes you just before the movements on the screen appear.

Several ways to stay aware but not awake include imagining descending or going up stairs, chanting, counting, breathing control, counting your breaths, and relaxing your body from head to toe. This all falls under self hypnosis. Don’t do this when you’re tired, or you’ll simply fall unconscious.

First, it was cds and DVD’s now we have devices that will help you lucid dream. Masks and other electronic apparatuses can be used to recognize REM sleep and give you a light buzz or light to make you aware that you are dreaming.

The most reliable and easiest way of inducing a lucid dream may be listening to binaural beats sound frequencies through headphones.

These work by synchronizing the two hemispheres of the brain and have the effect of almost instantaneously changing your brainwaves to the REM frequency needed for a lucid dream to occur.

Combined with the self hypnosis sessions and affirmations to prepare your subconscious mind beforehand, becoming a lucid dreamer is something that everyone can now experience!
