2 Interesting Tips To Cut Down On Your Slow Computer

June 6th, 2010 Bill Orion No comments

There are many different ways to make your computer faster out there, but once you have that handled there really is a limited amount of things that you can do to increase your productivity. One of these things being to simply make your applications quicker to get to. Think about it just for a second – how much time could you save if you were able to get to your applications quicker?

How much would you save if you were to add it up for a whole week or how about a month? I’m willing to bet that for the average person it would add up to a lot and even if it didn’t, being able to get to your programs quicker is just much more convenient. The user interface is something that you use frequently – you might as well spend some time to make it as convenient for you to use.

To being, let’s start off with the quick launch (if you not sure, the quick launch is that little group of icons that are right beside your start button). If you don’t see a little group of icons right beside your start menu, just right click on the taskbar and select Properties and then select Show Quick Launch to get them there. Now, in order for you to do anything you are going to have to unlock the quick launch. To do that, just right click on the task bar and select the Lock Taskbar option. By now you should be able to see some dotted lines which will allow you to resize it the quick launch window. Now all you have to do is to just find the top 3 applications that you use the most and then go through your All Programs list in the start menu and right click on their icons and select Copy. To add them, just go to your desktop, right click and select Paste. Now you should now see a copy of that icon on your desktop – all you have to do now to complete this is to just drag it into the quick launch area and the icon should be in bottom right hand corner next to the start menu (you can delete the shortcut that you copied to your desktop now since you will not be needing it). So every time that you start up your computer or just log on you don’t have to look all over the place those 3 programs – there right in front of you.

Now the start menu can also be of use to you when you are looking around for your applications. If you click on the start menu you will notice a faint horizontal line on the left hand side. Everything that is above this line is permanently there unless you manually remove it and everything below this line is programs that you have most recently used. What you’re going to want to do here is to add 3-5 programs that you use regularly to the permanent (the top part) of the list. Just go to All Programs on the start menu, right click on the program icon and select “Pin To Start Menu”. Do this for all 3-5 programs that you want to add to your start menu. Now you have your main 3 programs on your task bar and the other 3-5 regularly used ones on your start menu so you don’t have look around your computer to find where they are.

Another thing that you can do is to spend some time cleaning up your desktop. Only keep icons for programs – everything else, like random files, you should either delete or place into folders so that they are completely organized and in order so when you go looking for them you know exactly where they are.

Where To Get Good Desktop Pcs At Everyday Low Prices

November 23rd, 2009 Matthew Kerridge No comments

If you are considering buying desktop PCs for yourself or anyone on your Christmas list then there are some things you should consider. With all of the different brands and options available it can be hard to know what is a good deal and what is not. Here are some tips to help you get what you need and at the best price.

Specific needs vary by person and you need to know what works best for you as an individual. If you will not be the primary user then you should consider the needs of the person who will be using it the most. Memory and hard drove space are two of the biggest things to consider. This enables the computer to run faster and determines how many programs you can save.

I recommend going with a computer with mid range specs on memory and hard drive space until you know how much you will need. Most computers can be up graded if needed either by adding more memory or replacing the hard drive. If you don’t want to replace the hard drive you can usually add a secondary internal or external hard drive.

Other options include graphics cards, monitor types, and CD/DVD ROMs or burners. These don’t usually affect the actual running of your PC but may be needed for certain operations. Some games require a better graphics card than what usually comes in you standard desktop PCs. Flat panel monitors are good if you have limited space. You may also want to find out what modem options are available to you especially if you have dial up internet.

Next week starts off the holiday season and there will be many sales which will include desktop PCs. These may seem like great deals but if you wait a couple of months then a lot of store will slash prices even further to get rid of the merchandise that didn’t sell during the Christmas season.

No matter when you buy your computer you should check around and look at all of the deals so you can get the best price on what you want. You may have to pay more to get something you will be happy with but that may be better than buying one only to find it doesn’t meet your needs.

No matter what you need in a desktop PC you can usually find it if you are willing to pay the right price. There are even some companies that will custom build them for you to suit your specific needs.
