Choosing CS4 Design Training – Thoughts
With so many different choices of computer training courses available on the market today, it’s advisable to find a company who can guide you on one that will suit you. Professional companies will take the time to talk through differing job options that you might enjoy, prior to deciding on a computer training course that will give you the knowledge you need.
There’s a big selection when it comes to such courses – from basic office skills up to training programs for programmers, networkers, web designers etc. Take advice before you take the plunge – talk to an advisor with knowledge of the market sector. Someone who can help you select the right career path for you – that’s both relevant to industry and will prepare you for a career you’ll enjoy.
The latest training methods at last give students the chance to be instructed on an innovative style of course, that is far less expensive than traditional courses. The low overhead structure of the new courses means anyone can afford them.
A subtle way that training companies make more money is by adding exam fees upfront to the cost of a course and presenting it as a guarantee for your exams. It looks like a good deal, but let’s just examine it more closely:
Everyone knows they’re still footing the bill for it – obviously it has been inserted into the full cost of the package supplied by the course provider. It’s certainly not free (although some people will believe anything the marketing companies think up these days!)
Students who take each progressive exam, paying for them just before taking them are much better placed to get through first time. They are aware of their spending and so are more inclined to be up to the task.
Why should you pay the training college early for examination fees? Find the best deal you can at the appropriate time, don’t pay mark-ups – and take it closer to home – instead of miles away at the college’s beck and call.
Big margins are netted by a significant number of organisations that get money upfront for exam fees. For quite legitimate reasons, a number of students don’t get to do their exams and so they pocket the rest. Believe it or not, there are training companies that actually rely on students not sitting all the exams – as that’s where a lot of their profit comes from.
It’s worth noting, with most ‘Exam Guarantees’ – they control when and how often you are allowed to do a re-take. You’ll have to prove conclusively that you can pass before they’ll pay for another exam.
Splashing out often many hundreds of pounds extra on an ‘Exam Guarantee’ is naive – when a commitment to studying and the use of authorised exam preparation tools is what will get you through.
Some certification companies are still maintaining one of the most out-dated training concepts – classroom attendance. Often sold as a benefit, if you talk to a student who has had to attend a few, you’ll most likely hear about many or all of these issues:
* Loads of driving back and forth from the centre – normally quite a distance away.
* Availability of classes; frequently Monday to Friday and usually 2-3 days at a time. You then have the difficulty of the leave of absence.
* And don’t forget lost vacation time. Often, we get 4 weeks annual leave. If half is given up to classes, then there’s very little left over for us.
* Training workshops often become quickly full, giving us the only option of a slot that doesn’t really suit.
* Maybe you like to work at a pace that is different to the other class members. Sometimes this causes tension in the class.
* Count the cost of all the petrol, fares, parking, food and accommodation and you may be surprised (and not pleasantly). Trainees have reported extra costs of between several hundred and a couple of thousand pounds. Do the maths – and see for yourself.
* Keeping your training private from your employer will be of paramount importance to many students. Why give up any lift up the ladder, wage increases or accomplishment in your job because you’re getting trained in a different area. When your boss discovers you’re taking steps towards accreditation in another sector, what do you think they’ll do?
* Surely, all of us at some time have avoided asking a question, because we wanted to maintain the illusion that we did, in fact, understand?
* Working and living away – some attendees have to work or live somewhere else for certain parts of the programme. Events end up being very difficult then, unfortunately the money has already changed hands as part of your fees.
The absolute best situation is by viewing a pre-filmed class – with instructor-led learning available whenever you wish.
You could study at home on your PC or if you’ve got a laptop, you can go anywhere. Any questions; then use the provided 24×7 live support (that you should have insisted on for any technical study.)
Forget taking notes – every lesson is laid out for you already. If you need to cover something again, it’s there.
Basically: You save time, hassle, money and altogether avoid killing more trees.
